Visitors should also dress modestly when away from their resorts, which includes bringing a sarong to cover up bathing suits and halter tops. While the Fijans are known for being among the most friendly people in the world, wearing shorts, halter tops, or other shirts that bare the shoulders is considered to be disrespectful.

It is also important to avoid touching another person's head or even to avoid wearing a hat because these are also viewed as signs of disrespect. Similarly, shoes should be removed before entering a house or building and visitors should always stay with their assigned host.

English is the official language of Fiji, but many residents still speak the Fijan language as well. Therefore, it is beneficial to learn some of the more common Fijan phrases. Not only will this help visitors more easily get around throughout the island nation, it can also make the experience more pleasant while allowing them to get more deeply submerged into the Fijan culture.
